BlogGates

Medien

In the original version of G-Money and Me: Bill Gates Interview, Bill Gates told the following about using a blog on his own:

I’ve toyed with doing one myself, but I don’t want to be one of those people who start and then don’t finish it, and again I’m thinking maybe I could do one a month or one every six weeks–something like that. I’d kind of like to, but I’ve got to be sure I can keep going for at least a year to make it worth doing.

Unfortunately, this paragraph has been erased. Perhaps Mr. Gates himself did not want to see further speculation circulating on other blogs? In the end, it is unavoidable – people will talk about this. I wonder if Mr. Gates would write his blog all alone or let some of his staff members produce the content similar to a corporate blog as found in GoogleBlog. Does the question concerning credibility arise again?

    Dear Achim,

I do agree and do not believe you can finish a blog at all – unless your focus is based on specific topics or time-dependent events. After all, the blogs serve as a platform for communication on each entry, and you cannot limit this communication except if you close the comments. A certain continuity is already found in this simple idea of „feedback“. The only moment I can think of is the (illegal) takeover of a blog or anything else that happens to its author beyond the virtual insanity found in our daily lives – even death plays a factor here.

Bill Gates‘ fear of being unable to finish it can probably be understood as a problem of his own time and space to work on a project. He clearly understands that blogs require a lot time and effort, and being in his position the time is more than money. Bill Gates might find himself in the fire of critics once he opens the blogs – people hate him just for being himself, or not? Imagine that comment spam… scary!

    Best regards,
    Mike

Another question comes to mind: what does Bill Gates mean when he writes that he feared he would not be able to „finish“ his blog.

When does a blog finishes? Isn’t the idea of a blog that it is a never ending story?
